So yeah, I restarted, and the Doctor was where he was supposed to be.
I found a glitch: I can't change ammo type for the Benelli M3 Short.
Whenever I try, I get a sound and a weapon animation, but the ammo type
isn't changed.
Also, what is the purpose of the tactical vest? What does it do?
EDIT: I read somewhere that the tac vest doesn't do anything. Is it
still true?
EDIT 2: Is it possible to delete the texture you get when you wear an
exoskeleton?

I'm not saying I'm smarter than everyone else, no no, I'm just implying
you're less smart than everybody else, that's all. By the way, the
"full" version (I guess you mean newest version) is *1*.0006. But I
think it's not possible to make STALKER on Steam be *1*.0006 anyway, but
it doesn't hurt to do start out with finding reasons to what could be
going on, you can't always just have the answer served on a silver platter.
So not knowing a specific piece of info somehow makes me not smart? You
still haven't explained why you think people should know what you know.
If I was a professional chef but I didn't know the things that an
electrician has to know, does that make me not smart because I don't
have the info? If you think so, then that thinking is idiotic. Stop

Anyways, still waiting on a response to this from someone who is
actually here to help. If I have the Steam version, then does this mod
expect me to torrent a separate version because it doesn't want to work?
I've already reinstalled the game fresh to make sure it isn't damaged
(and reinstalled the mod for about the 8th time). Unless this crash has
nothing to do with the version afterall. Also if it means anything (and
I sure hope not), I'm running Windows 7.

*Stalkersoup* was developed primarily for Steam players (there is no
seperate version) and Win 7 is not an issue.
Try making a hard save prior to the crash happening and reloading.
As far as I am aware (no expert on SOC bugs) the fault is an improperly
initialised object.
Did you remove the lights before installing the patch?
Some crashes are cured by reducing your vision and light settings.
edit
If all else fails then hang on for the new version being released next week.
Install afresh with this and see how you get on.
If you have uncommon crashes then, you can always send the crash file
and save game to Technobacon to look at.
It's not worth doing this with your current data as TecnoBacon is busy
preparing the new version release, and after release it is unlikely that
old versions will be supported.

As it is, it's ugly and annoying (especially if you constantly wear an
exoskeleton): the idea is good, but in my opinion it should be either
smaller or more defined.
Also, if I get a crack or two on my exoskeleton visor, will they be
repaired if I repair the exoskeleton?

That would imply that you do not have compatable alternative ammunition
for this particular weapon in your inventory.
Do not always go by the pda weapon description as there are some errors
- but I never checked the Benelli M3 Short as I very rarely use these
types of weapons.
Edit - re Wulfrics advice below - sorry I thought you had already
emptied the weapon.
As far as I am aware there are still issues with the tactical vest.

Right-click on Benelli and unload, then hit 'y' to change ammo type,
reload, and it should work.
Tactical vest is currently disabled; however, it will tell you how much
ammo you have for equipped weapons
You'll get used to the exoskeleton after wearing it a bit!

seem to get in the Swamp map.

So it's in 1st person (looking through visor) view that you dislike.
I play a lot in 3rd person while wearing the exoskeleton.
You can also zoom in/out in 1st person with numpad - & + to remove the
broken visor, though you will also remove the minimap etc.
I'm pretty sure repairing will improve the visor - I only use this gear
for hauling loot around, preferring more agile armour

I've got a few gameplay questions:
-Is it me, or are the dynamic quests regarding the two possible duty
member rescues in Dark Valley pretty badly screwed up by the current
state of the mod? Whether I stayed hostile with the bandits or became
friendly, I was never able to get those quests to trigger properly.
Bullet asked me to accompany him to the ambush spot by the bus once, but
then immediately told me the quest had failed, and the rest of my
attempts the dialogue prompt never came up at all.
I've had similar problems with this mission. I have had to replay
several times to achieve the desired outcome. Sometimes the two bandits
and Max just stand around--I thought it might be because of dynamic
anomalies complicating their route toward Bullet and you. You have to
kill the bandits just after Bullet shoots, being careful not to hit him
or Max. You could try forcing a blowout before going to Dark Valley and
see if that helps.

Anyways now that I found the crashlogs (it would have been nice if I had
known they were in a text file) I can post them here.
I completely reinstalled Stalker from Steam, reinstalled the mod once
again using the proper patches and directions, and started my own game.
I played through the Cave and got to the part where it always crashes.
Sure enough, it did. Whenever I talk to Wolf or Sid, I get this crash.

Believe me, I know how frustrating it is when you can't get a mod going,
especially when you have followed the directions. Could you tell us
about your computer--processor, video card, RAM, etc.
Be sure you've got the reduced texture packs installed and the
xrGame.dll from TB's options folder is in your bin folder. Try reducing
your settings--go to 'options' from the main menu and change to 'static
lighting' and 'low' quality settings. It's a good idea to put
-noprefetch in your STALKER shortcut (right-click on desktop shortcut
and go to properties), so it looks like this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of
Chernobyl\bin\XR_3DA.exe" -nointro -noprefetch
Good luck and don't despair!

If it's repairable, yes, the visor cracks will disappear.

The tactical vest was an almost legendary source of mishaps, CTDs, and
crashes in the days of the original Narodnaya Solyanka mod which
*STALKERSOUP* is based off of. It's still disabled pending reintegration
for obvious reasons since most of the issues it created weren't solved.
Just as a heads up.

wasn't fixed yet. Doing this solves it.

lowering any settings. The most key thing of all was to not let too much
"heavy" things happen at once. For example, I had several Izloms and a
Librarian attack some Clear Sky guys, and every time it would crash like
that after something died. Then I went on and picked them off without
Clear Sky involved, and no crash.
Another was a group of Snorks attacked me, and when three leapt at once,
it crashed. Then I was getting the special brain from a unique
controller, and almost every time they did the psy attack, it would
crash. Killing these enemies from afar is how I got past the bugs. No
other crashes like that for me in that area.
I am running with the crack, 'cause I had to have a v1.04 version for
some mods. Steam didn't have that available. Generally, in areas of high
activity, try not to let too many "heavy" things happen at once. I had a
similar crash in Bar when an Izlom and Duty patroller were fighting up
close, and right when one killed the other it crashed.
And about the mask overlays from exoskeletons and gas masks--couldn't
you disable them from the AMK menu? I don't know if it was answered, but
I know in some mods you could do it this way. I suppose you could also
go in and edit that texture yourself... or clean it up and make it pretty

Someone asked about the order of texture packs...
The seasonal texture packs are installed last and can be changed anytime
after a game start by starting a new game to update the all.sav and
render cache then loading your save game.
This applies ONLY to the four seasonal texture packs, the particle
paradise one will change level data and does require an additional step
to remove them completely though.
Also the Meltac DDOF shaders are not 100% complete for this mod and has
caused some issues in-game. I need to do some shader editing to get all
of it supported so it won't happen for awhile yet.

the crashes you get from the controller is due to the crack version as
the digital zoom effect was derived from the controllers pull effect.
the swamp does max out the heap and yes avoiding too much action at once
is helping, next patch improves on these areas greatly by balancing the
load better (smart terrain)

I have a quad core processor, 8gb ram, and an AMD Radeon HD 6700. This
game and other games run fine for me, so I'm not sure if it's the
graphics. I turned them down anyways to test it out, everything on low.
It still crashes when I talk to Wolf or the Trader. I've always had
-noprefetch set. The xrGame.dll from the options folder was already
added, and the light folder is deleted.
So far the only "solution" was to use that savegame from the options
folder, but then I end up getting a different crash after doing the
flashdrive mission.

Collector. And then the next time I load up my previous saves, I have
all these items in my inventory from the Collector. The game seems to
like switching my all.sav everytime it crashes when talking to Wolf or

to crash? Because this happens everytime, despite the fact that I never
touch Collector mode and I keep making brand new all.sav files.

crack xr3da & xrGame.dll
Don't know whether this helps anyone. I am running a retail version of
SoC (patched to *1*.0005). In the days of playing the DKZ2 version of NS
I tried the crack version of xr3da to try to overcome frequent crashes.
With TB3D I found that the crack version didn't work well at all with
4gig_133_verified xrGame .dll. The game crashed continually. With xr3da
from the retail pack I have had a relatively smooth run other than some
stack overflows and some problems in the Swamp map.
Overall, TB3D has been the most stable configuration of NS I have played
... and I'm sure it'll only get better.

Still unsure why this is happening to some but since I have focused on
the new release I am having trouble back tracking.
For sure the skip cave save will not work, somehow your freeplay flag is
getting hit but don't know from where.

gamedata\meshes\physics\light.

yep, cached drives, especially ssd and network drives. If running a
crack or extended exe then this happens as the return signature in
windows is different then the exe on close, usually you will get a
prompt telling you of the error (os dependent)

Going well, getting things tweaked in between Davros and my new additions.
Those running *1*.0.8.9 without *1*.0.8.9.*1* are going to run into
issues with stalker games as the free play flag does not get set at the
right time and initial spawns will be messed up.
*1*.0.9:
This version creates a more compact and solid save packet for the player
with the new level/rank information imbedded in the difficulty variable
so that a save will set the free play flag before ANY initialization of
the level which FIXES FOREVER the two main issues with this game. The
new binder will check to see if the save is new or legacy, if a legacy
then it will be upgraded and a message will ask you to make a new save
and reload. Although most saves should work they will not be as good as
a new game as this does not change info portions.
Although the patch will work just fine, I recommend a new download for
those who think thier existing install is funky.
few more days to give us time to insure this patch is fully synchronized.

and complete playthroughs, it was Narodnaya Soljanka : DMX *1*.32 :
dkz-02 that converted me from an occasional player into a committed Stalker.
This evolved to trying out *Stalkersoup* and eventually signing up to
the various forums.

The fellow who initially merged NS + DMX into a somewhat functional
conglomeration, then tweaked it up a bit, and offered it to the masses

I did it, I did it...
Finally fixed Dead City bone crash!!!!!
The Collector will be able to travel there anytime and stalker can go
from the ATP now.
I need to trap some triggers to prevent ruining the main plot but it's
nice not to have to tell everyone not to go there!
Getting close, by the end of the week!!
With DKZ on board and the other translators sending in work we should be
able to get all the dialog fixed up. Darious has focused on maturing up
the game for those realists out there.
Ballistics, Ballistics... still behind on this one.
More in a day or two...
