If you look down the Main Forum to the heading just below the one on Stalker 2, ie on books, films etc, there is quite a lot of information that may be helpful to you. For a general view of Ukraine including its time under Soviet rule, and from moving towards independence is interesting plus the more specific area around Chernobyl and Pripyat also, I recommend Wikipedia.
There are also some YouTubers who have posted videos on these areas and also the untouched area of a similar "Zone" to the north in Belarus which could be a good site for modding and DLC. Happy Hunting, TrueB
