pchesterText that may contain spoilers can be hidden by encasing them in spoiler tags. This gives the reader the choice of reading them or not. Spoiler tags can also be used to hide lengthy quoted text from previous posts, so that only the latest reply is immediately visible.
There are two ways to add spoiler tags. The first is to select (mouse-over) the text that you want to hide and then to click the Spoiler icon (the 'sheet of paper' with a yellow triangle containing an '!') in the line of symbols above the text box. E.g.:
- Spoiler:
This text has been hidden by seecting the text and using the 'Spoiler' icon above.
Hidden text will have the title "Spoiler" added by default. You can replace the word "Spoiler" with some other text if you wish, by using the Title field in the pop-up box - e.g., "Previous post" or just a colon ":". E.g.:
- Hidden text:
This text has been hidden using the 'Spoiler' icon with title text added.
The second method is to enter tags manually. Tags are bounded by square brackets [] and the text that is to be tagged is contained between an opening tag: [xxx] and a closing tag with a forward slash: [/xxx].
Spoiler tags can be manually added by typing [ spoiler ] (without the spaces) in front of the text and [ /spoiler ] (again without spaces) after it. To add a title, enter the first tag as [ spoiler=" " ] with your chosen title between the "" quotation marks. E.g.:
- More hidden text:
This text was hidden using manually typed spoiler tags with a title.
I usually use this method as I find it gives me more control over what is hidden, e.g. where complex nested replies are included, but either method will work.
Finally: before sending, remember to use the Preview button below the text box to check that your message is spoiler-tagged correctly.
