Subject: Question for pchester re walkthrough Sun 13 Oct 2024 - 22:04
Hi [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], I have a question for you regarding your walkthrough. Why, when one is in an area, do one not complete all open tasks that one has the items for? For instance, after one has collected the 10 flasks for Voronin, does one not then give the flasks to him when in the bar to talk to Barkeep about his friend who joined the Monolith, for instance? Please note, this is NOT a criticism in any way, I am really interested in why one does things in a certain order. Thank you.

Hi [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. The walkthrough is only intended as a guide, and originates from copious notes and screenshots taken during one complete playthrough many years ago. It continues to be updated and extended as new patches arrive and as I learn new things (and believe me, I am still learning!) but basically the order of play in the walkthrough is based on how I happened to play that first game.
These days, apart from main story quests and those tasks where I know there are prerogatives and consequences, I seldom do things exactly the same way from game to game. I tackle quests in whatever order suits me at the time - for example, these days I usually visit the Swamps much earlier than I did back then. The one thing that I do still try to do in every game is to complete as many tasks as possible before moving on to a new area. Otherwise the task list grows to a point where I forget what I am supposed to be doing...
Most of the side-tasks can be done in pretty much any order, so if I have the items necessary to fulfil a 'quest' there is no reason not to hand them in if I am in the area - assuming, of course, that I have remembered to bring the necessary items with me! On the other hand, if it isn't convenient to return to a quest-giver, there is seldom any harm in leaving it until later.
I guess the TLDR is: by all means use the walkthrough as a guide, but otherwise do things in whatever order you feel most suits your current game. Just take care to read all of the in-game notes and other clues that the game provides to tell you when something is important and needs to be done sooner rather than later!
Hope this helps.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], thank you so much for your reply. I understand now and appreciate that your wonderful guide is simply that, a guide. I was only asking as I thought there was a specific reason, like storyline cohesion, that dictated the order in which things were laid out and completed in a certain way. Much appreciated, sir. Thank you again.

Hi markdewet, even though the guide is not rigid, the game is fairly linear in my opinion so that, on a first playthrough, to follow the guide can be beneficial to get to know how it all works and in what order to do main quest jobs. Since 1.10020 is not ready quite yet, following the guide can be fun, and then when you have done so, you can have more fun, with the update when it arrives. It is possible to screw up where certain parts are not in the right order, but as long as players can access old saves, they can always reload to a rime when they were on the right track. Good Hunting. Regards TrueB
