Problem with DX11 Empty
PostSubject: Problem with DX11   Problem with DX11 Icon_minitimeSat 25 Sep 2021 - 13:10

Hi everyone!

I have a problem running DX11 or DX11 extended with the latest update. After launching the game, there's a message on the screen saying

"Your video card doesn't meet minimum requirements
Pixel shader 1.1 or higher is required"
No intro or anything is loaded, just a black screen with this message.

Someone have a solution? Running the game with dx9 works.
My video card is a GTX 1060 6gb

Hi Pilkone

Would you please confirm that you're definitely on version 1.10019.1 of the game, because this bug was fixed in the last patch...

Also, please check that all your all Visual C and XNA Redistributable libraries are installed and up to date. Here's what you should have

The latest versions (on 15 Aug 21) were:
2005 (x86)                        8.0.61187
2005 (x64)                        8.0.61187

2019 (x86) Additional       14.29.30129
2019 (x86) Minimum        14.29.30129

If necessary, you can download them all in one package here
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

The game also needs these to work:

Hi Sword2012

I installed all the visual c packages that you link me and all the xna frameworks, but the problem still remain.
And I'm on the latest patch because on main menu the version is 19 micro rev 1 and when I run the updater it tells me that there aren't any other updates available.

Maybe there are some missing dll files?

Hi Pilkone

Thanks for confirming the above. Please take a look at this old forum topic, to see if anything helps. Because this should be a problem of the past...

I apply the shader fix from the link, entered the game in dx9 saving and exiting the game.
When I try to run the game in dx11 same error message.

Maybe I should try to reinstall the game back to 1.100012 and try dx11?

I insert the error box.

Did you install and test the game following the step-by-step Installation Guide? Including correcting the 'Line 513, ‘sun_near’ fault in the Modders Script?

Because even downloading the files from the wrong place can cause problems...

Just making sure you've done everything properly before trying to suggest anything else... scratch

Yes I follow the guide but forgot to correct that 'sun_near' fault. I just do it now but nothing changes.
I downloaded the iso file from MEGA and downloaded the updates through the updater.

Maybe I did something wrong?

Then assuming you're using Windows 10, following the special instructions for Windows 10, and NOT installing onto your C:\ drive or partition, all I can suggest now is that you totally uninstall your game, clean out every last trace of it, and reinstall it following the instructions in the Guide to the letter

Sorry to sound pedantic, but these instructions are based on many successful installs, and every tip gleaned from the forum...

So I uninstall the game once more, deleted all registry keys. Then I reinstall the game following the guide and tips for Windows 10. I install the game through the iso file downloaded from mega. I chose another install path such as E:\STALKERSOUP and once finish the installation, I run the game with dx9, on main menu version was 1.10012. Test game and it was ok, then before I run the updater, I was curious if that version had the same problem with DX11. There were DX11 and DX11 Sweetfx but the error was the same. Updated everything, corrected the fix for sun_near fault, made all files in game's directory non read-only. Then I do my tests but still error remains.
Running as administrator didn't solve anything.
Maybe the game can't access some core files? I tried insert in the bin folder some DirectX dll files thinking that maybe something was missing.
Should I configure Nvidia control panel, maybe there's some tweak that isn't compatible with the game.

Log file end line says same error
"Can't compile shader combine_2_aa"

After this I'm out of ideas Sad

Hi Sword, please advise which cleaner you use that can access registeries. I made the very basic error of loading it into C:\program files (x86) because this is what afaik it offered when I clicked to get the game working for the upgrades from 1.10012. I went to Control Panel to delete Stalkersoup in Programs and Features but Stalkersoup wasn't there. Anyway, I have't ever used a cleaner nor had my Stalkersoup registered, for initially back in 2011, iirc, the Chernobyl commercial disk was used and that would I assume have removed entries on deletion. I look forward to your advice; thanks and regards, TrueB

Hi TrueB

1. Delete your StalkerSoup folder from 'Program Files', then empty your Recycle Bin, and restart your PC

2. Install the free version of 'CCleaner' from the Piriform website

3. Run the 'Custom Clean' part of CCleaner, followed by the 'Registry' cleaning part of CCleaner, then restart your PC

This should be enough to do the job, but if you want to go a stage further, do the same again with a free program called 'Glary Utilities' from the Glarysoft website

4. After installing it, run their 'Disc Cleanup', followed by their 'Registry Repair', then restart your PC

5. Follow the Guide from Step 7 'Installing the game'
---
NOTE: You could potentially edit the registry manually, removing everything named 'StalkerSoup', but I wouldn't recommend it for two reasons

1. Manual registry editing is the IT equivalent of doing your own repairs under the bonnet of a car at the side of the road

2. Because of your long-established passion for the game, you're likely to have many other files on your PC named 'StalkerSoup' that aren't part of the game installation. And you won't want those removed... No

Hi Sword,
Having cleaned all and am on 1.10019.1 I can load the game in DX9 but get bugtrap in either  DX11 option. I am using Windows Pro Advanced and wonder if this form of Windows Pro  might be the cause. I am not sure which part of my new PC needs the advanced format but it runs in DX12. Your advice will again be appreciated. Thanks and Regards TrueB

Hi TrueB

If you've been following the latest version 1.10019.1f of the installation guide, at which step of the testing procedure does the problem occur, please?

Step 16 suggests that you only try the DX11 options once you're certain that everything works fine with DX9, which is based upon all the previous steps

The guide was based upon my own installation and experiences with Windows 10 Pro, which tends to avoid most of the problems incurred with Windows 10 Home

Having said this, I've never come across Windows 10 Pro Advanced...

Hi Sword, neither had I until I got my new PC, it seems the firm I use has changed the motherboard and if I recall correctly there is some sort of reference. In my opinion, on my PC's motherboard is a copy of Windows Pro hard-wired to it, so in the case of the SSD failing etc, a press of a button brings up a working program perhaps in need of updating, of Windows Pro to self -load onto a new replacement SSD,,or a reformatted one.

In my DX9 video I am seeing a lot of pixilated views. DX11 both versions simply crash. The version I am using is 1.10019.1, but the TB3D Modders.Script shows, 1.10019.2; is this the version of the script you have, please?
Apart from this, the game runs fine, with no CTDs yet.
All the Best TrueB

Hi TrueB

I can't find anything at all on Windows 10 Pro Advanced, so you might want to ask your supplier what it is, why it's there, what's different about it, and could it be causing your problems? Especially if it addresses any unique visual accessibility requirements

Can you post a screenshot showing your Windows version, showing the 'Advanced' suffix?

There's no point trying to run in DX11 if basic DX9 doesn't work properly, and this will need to be addressed first. Have you checked the game's pre-requirements in the guide, including all the Visual C and XNA Framework versions? Are your video drivers up to date? And is your graphics card seated properly?

EDIT: Is your Asus GPU TweakII tool overclocking your graphics card more than the game can handle, or potentially stopping StalkerSoup-essential software from running in the background?

Also, a screenshot of the inside of your StalkerSoup folder would be useful, please

Hi Sword,
I doubt I have any of the items you propose. When my previous PC went out of use, so did every program on it.
I will do a search and try and download these. The PC only came with Windows Pro Advanced but the "Advanced" bit only refers to a hardwired Windows Pro, that I recently found out was the makers title. Basically if for any reason Windows is corrupted, as I understand it, the version incorporated in the motherboard, at the physical press of a button on the motherboard, removes the corrupted version and writes in its copy. Pretty cool and before a phonecall unknown to me. Of course it would overwrite every registery program link but if that desperate worthwhile, and incidentally my present situation since it arrived  needing several updates but fortunately novbloatware.
I will try all your kind suggestions and let you have the screenshot as soon as.
All the best, and my thanks, TrueB

Just a few comments:

After installing the game, please try it out in DX9 according to the guide, without any overclocking, nor any optimisation add-ons.

Once you're certain it works fine in DX9, only then try the game in DX11

Modern add-ons will be optimised for modern games, and may not be compatible with StalkerSoup. If you program an optimiser to stop 'unnecessary' background processes, be certain that none of those processes are necessary for StalkerSoup to run efficiently

Overclocking a GPU nowadays, IMHO, just isn't worth it. Considering the current cost of graphics cards, ask yourself the question, 'If it's a good idea in the long run, then why didn't the manufacturer do it?' The answers include that it can permanently damage the card, and it can cause graphical aberrations in some (though not all) applications

It can also devalue the card when you want to resell it. With GPU's at their current astronomical prices, the first question a savvy buyer will ask is, "Has it ever been overclocked?"

But frankly, if you're using a RTX 3080ti, then just leave it to do its job. It's a beast of a card and, other than keeping its drivers up to date, it certainly won't require any other help...

Overclocking the CPU can cause problems with StalkerSoup. I use a 7-year old Intel i5 3.5GHz CPU with a 'K' suffix, meaning that it was deemed suitable for overclocking with added cooling. But although I could take my CPU to 4.8GHz for most applications, StalkerSoup is only stable if I keep it at a constant 4.4GHz

I won't comment on bloatware, because Windows comes full of it by default. There are ways of getting rid of it, but it shouldn't affect StalkerSoup in the ways you describe

Screenshots can be posted here on the forum. Those trying to help would be looking out for the correct number of folders, the content of your DX11 folders, and anything unusual that could cause problems...

Thanks Sword, it is interesting because when I received the PC the first time, it was overclocked at 50%, the tech that spoke to me said like you that it didn't need overclocking.
I intend to uninstall Tweak II which works fine on the now-repaired RTX version, but not on this. The pixelation was really bad last night, so I reduced the quality in the basic StalkerSoup Options Video to medium and the pixelation is much less. I am delighted with your shared wisdom. Kind Regards, TrueB

In my opinion the following might help other users with issues around the running of Stalkersoup. My new PC had the Windows code number embedded in the motherboard so in the event of a need to reload a button was pressed and the Windows 10 OEM version would download from the website. It took some time to find this out. I had found a file inaccessible and contacted the manufacturer to did out why. In my opinion it seems to have  limited access or so I opine I was told. In Windows nowadays, this sort of OEM software can be sidelined. I inserted the C:\ drive from my old PC in the new PC and typed in the  old "code" alphanumeric in place of the other, unknown, OEM one which on reboot returned full control of the PC to me. Thank you, Sword for your very helpful suggestions.
