In an effort to cut back on saves I wonder if having the all.sav and the most recent area save will suffice, that is 2 to 3 saves in the saves folder. Then if I use a timer and quit the game after an hour with a named save plus the area entry save, this should protect gamers whose games load from an external SSD albeit not the perfect method of having the game files.

disable autosave quests in advance options that will cut way down on it, then you only have the auto saves from changing maps as well as quicksave, should help

and yes the latest autosave and quicksave, and all.sav will work, but it be risky to have a low ammount of saves cause the game sometimes has gamesave corruption. it happened to me on a dark valley save for example cause of the issue with it on 1.1.0019 so I recommend ya keep some backup saves.

That's good thinking. Disabling the autosave in advanced options can also be an on/ off remedy. For examples: when seeing any traders who have given wordy tasks, the autosave helps maintain what a mission is for the Diary text, but then to turn off if next taking missions for artefacts/mutant parts that MO has on him or in Sid's blue bin, and so able to hand them in straight away, can flag up enough award autosaves to scroll the important task text from the trader off the Diary screen. So a good time to knock them off; & eg in Recon

On the other hand: in Collector the saves for finding the items are important for much the reason you suggest keeping a couple of saves in hand

Quicksaves don't always survive the DV exit, if a freeze or CTD occurs. I will probably keep the all.sav, and about 3 to an area, since if just to show crossing without a specific goal achieved, once another 3 have been added in the next area, the previous ones can be deleted.
