PostSubject: Recommended HW + GPU for 64bit Release?   Mon 10 Sep 2018 - 21:17

My old ATI HD6670 + Core 2 Duo + 5 GB DDR2 is going to hell soon. + Reality is, 64bit needs like 10-15 % more RAM per process? Is this correct? + How much RAM (GPU 1-2 GB of GDDR5 + RAM recomendation?) you would use for some usable ST experience?

I have looked for some nicely priced older Xeons, but they just support 1333 MHZ DDR3 :/.

Go with a lower end Kaby Lake processor man, core count doesn't matter for games, its your IPC (instructions per clock) and clock speed.

EDIT: hell, even a skylake or something similar, 2-3 generations old will smack around your current processor, and they just keep getting cheaper as time goes on.

So i7 and Xeon is overkill for ST? But for price of good i5 or i7you could have 8 thread Xeon... Strong one thread is situation now, but after update? 64bt engine promises many threads availble? But will he use them I wonder?

right now I use 4 threads, pre-render frames, physics, shaders and LUA. the 64bit will use up to 12 cores which speeds up the game with more pre-rendered frames and all scripts pre-cached. It will also use up to 4gig in ram.

This is my current PC from 2015.

Motherboard - MSI 970 Gaming
Processor - AMD FX-8350 BOX
Graphics card - MSI GTX 960 Gaming 4G
RAM - HyperX 16GB FURY DDR3 1866Mhz CL10
Monitor - 24" BenQ XL2411P 144Hz ( old one month )
Win 10 64bit

I plan to improve performance early next year.
I can play SS at maximum settings, sometimes the game freezes for a moment, but it's not terrible,
The only real problem is the walls in the interior of the house or underground levels where there are shadows, rectangles appear on the wall, ( picture below ) sometimes CTD happens, but all in all the game is great.

rectangles are the shadow mask for the shaders and once I have level up 1,2,3 all solid running I will work on the shadow issue. the stalls are the game accessing external files which go through the rights service which I cannot control until the 64bit version is done. The last few non-memory crashes are being worked on now and one has already been found (forgotten forest lc story id is clashing with an object that I am trying to isolate today). Another issue that happens is having to many saves in your saves folder which overruns the ui display list so it is wise to keep the saves minimal by archiving the rest. The new file naming system for level starts has a problem which is causing the auto archiver in my launcher to fail on some of them.
