I may be missing something: the "Gulag" and Akaban's in general are single or double shot only. I can't figure out how to make them full auto (using "0" and "9" to change mode). Two shot capability simply doesn't apply enough firepower for how I play. The "real life" models have four modes: "safe," semi-auto, two-shot auto and full auto.

Is there a full auto mode I'm missing? I realize the "safe" mode is missing from ALL SS firearms.

I don't know about "real life"(TM), but neither of them has a full-auto mode as they appear in the game, just 1-shot, 2-shot and grenade. I like the Abakan in 2-shot mode as an early-game sniper weapon, but it isn't usable an assault rifle unless you are prepared to mash the trigger. I do prefer it to the Gulag, for some reason I just don't get on with the Gulag's scope.

k6d6m, have you ever had any problems using mods with Stalkersoup? I have always steered clear of them, as I am never sure how they might interact, especially as the main game is still being developed.

Hi pchester...yes, I've had problems with complete texture mods, such as the Photorealistic Zone mod. Threw an occasional error referencing one of the wall, or ground textures. But, as far as Gnomus scopes, no problems that I'm aware of. I don't use the whole mod, I've unpacked it, and use just a few of the scope textures. The pk-a texture has never caused an error that was logged. No other mods, just a few file edits.

Be glad to upload the texture if you wish to try it.

Just drop the folder into your gamedata. It will replace the default pk-a texture.

You change it in the specific weapons file, e.g., abakan.ltx.

e.g. "fire_modes = -1, 1, 2, 3"
Gives you full auto, single shot, 2-shot burst, and 3-shot burst respectively. "0" would be no shot, or "safe".

Have fun. BTW, I have already edited the Abakan file for full auto. If you want it, I can upload it. If you already know this, apologies.

Thanks kd6dm. I have never played with textures, so it took me a couple of tries to figure out where the file needed to go, but the scope texture is a great improvement and actually makes the 'Gulag' usable. (I couldn't find my original Gulag, but I went back to Sak and luckily the controller hand task was in his list!)

There are several other weapons that I have avoided because of their dirty scopes. I will have to download the Gnomus mod and see what else it can improve.

Thanks, I didn't know that. However, I don't plan on micro-managing *my* adjustments to the game as distributed. If it can't be changed in-game I really am loathe to change it at all.

While the Akaban series have better firepower stats than the AK-74, the '74 does a good yeoman's job for me, I'll stick with it.

When it comes to the weapons, I guess I'm a micro-manager. The first time I encountered the Abakan in the game, I thought it odd that a burst capable rifle didn't also have full auto. In RL the Abakan has both full auto, and 2-shot burst, so I added that to the weapon file. I've edited many of the weapons files for suppressors, scopes, grenade launchers, etc. If available in real life, I think an edit is OK. Just a personal preference, but nothing wrong with other playing styles. BTW, I agree that the AK-74 is a fine weapon, especially since you can pick one up in the Cave at the start  Very Happy .
